Patrick Olsen’s most recent awards include: 

 

  • The Jean Rudduck Memorial Bursary 2017 for an outstanding PhD upgrade. Awarded at the end of my first year in the Faculty of Education, Cambridge.
  • The Barton Prize 2016 for being “the graduate student who has made the most outstanding contribution to Homerton College life over the past year”. Earned for my efforts in establishing and directing Homerton Jazz.
  • Homerton Student Representation Award 2016 for distinguished representation of Homerton beyond the college (This award is usually given to varsity athletes so my receiving it for music is a very rare distinction).

 

Artistic Residencies & Commissions

2016-2018: History Works commissioned fun music & lyrics based on local history for the ‘Creating My Cambridge’ primary schools project. Compositions included “The Cambridge Navvies Song”.

2013-2014: Limerick City Arts Council Grant to compose original music highlighting the collection of The Hunt Museum in Ireland. Compositions included “Two Images of Roderic O’Connor” (drums, strings, woodwinds, piano).

2011-2013: Artist in Residence at The Hunt Museum, Limerick. Compositions included “Lebkuchen, Marienplatz” (accordion, strings, woodwinds, piano, percussion).

2009-2011: Artist in Residence at The Belltable Theatre, Limerick. Music by Undead Composers. Compositions included “Lament for Clarinet” (winds, accordion, strings, piano & percussion).
